BROWN TRANSFERWARE AESTHETIC PLATE GARDENER I don't know the title of this 7-1/2" plate, but it could be entitled "Gardener". It is printed in chocolate brown with a young girl holding a rake. She is surrounded by flowers. The plate dates from the 1880s, and was probably made in Staffordshire. If you like Aesthetic Movement items or garden themed items, this is the plate for you! Other than a chip on the back, condition is excellent.

This 9-1/2" soup bowl is printed in brown with a lovely Aesthetic Movement pattern entitled "Neil". It should have been called "Poppy"! The large poppy sits to the side of the bowl and floats onto the border. It rests against a pattern that resemble fabric, perhaps a Japanese kimono. There is ric-rac encircling the inner rim of the bowl and two birds! This is a gorgeous pattern! Take a look at all of the photos for the details. Condition is excellent.

WEDGWOOD WATER-LILLY BLUE PLATE 1900 This 10-1/2" plate was made by Wedgwood in Staffordshire around 1900. It is printed in lovely shades of medium to dark blue and is is entitled "Water-Lilly" on the back of the plate. The design has many of the elements of the Aesthetic Movement with its assymmetry and refusal to stay in a border. The pattern is gorgeous! Condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or restoration. Take a look at all of the photos for the details.

AESTHETIC TRANSFERWARE BROWN PLATTER ANGLAIS This 15-3/4" by 12-3/4" platter was made in Staffordshire around 1880. The rich brown transfer is my favorite color used for Aesthetic Movement transferware. The pattern name is "Anglais". Each size in the series depicts different English scenes in post card like reserves surrounded by the natural world. Butterflies, flowers and a spider in her web make a delightful border around Warwick Castle and Guy's Cliff. Condition is excellent.

AESTHETIC TRANSFERWARE BROWN PLATE ANGLAIS This 10-1/4" plate is from a series called "Anglais" which is comprised of English country scenes. This one has a castle and cow scene contained in a twig frame border with a hunting scene in a telescope-like circle to the side. Roses and butterflies surround the scenes right to the edge of the plate. How more Aesthetic Movement can the design get! The brown transer is a rich chocolate against a cream ground. Condition is excellent. The plate was probably made in Staffordshire around 1880.

02-3854

AESTHETIC TRANSFERWARE ALBANY PLATE 1880 The design on this 10" plate is very Aesthetic Movement. The central but not centered ribbon is divided into four sections each with its own floral motif resembling Japanese fabric. At the center of this band is a rather humorous goat with a mustache as well as a beard! The ribbon is surrounded by large dahlias. The rim of the plate is lined with a faded gold. There is a one inch hairline at two o'clock which doesn't threaten the integrity of the plate. Other than that there are no chips, cracks or hairlines. Appearance is excellent. Take a look at all the photos for details. The plate was made in Staffordshire around 1880.

WEDGWOOD MONTH PLATE SEPTEMBER C 1870 This 9" 1870's Wedgwood month plate is unusual in that it is polychrome rather than monochrome. I have the tiles made by Wedgwood in the 1880's and have seen the plates but have never seen one beautifully painted. I wish I could have seen the whole set of twelve! This plate is "September" and it has the same design as those pieces made later in the 1880's. There is the young woman picking fruit as her dog looks on. The colors are gorgeous and condition is excellent. The marks on the back are very interesting. There is an impressed Wedgwood mark as well as a printed brown mark that says "Old English" and a printed blue mark that says "Mikado". There is also a pattern number in red, "C1423". I just noticed another impressed mark, "HTG". The back is almost as interesting as the front!
