VICTORIAN TILES

Victorian Tiles were used for many different purposes--walls, fireplace surrounds, floors and trivets are only a few. My favorites are the Wedgwood month tiles made around 1880. They make excellent birthday presents!

MINTON NURSERY RHYMES TILE QUEEN OF HEARTS Here is one of ten tiles from Minton, Hollins & Co circa 1870. They are from the rare Nursery Rhymes series designed by Moyr Smith, and were originally part of a fireplace surround. This 6" tile depicts The Queen of Hearts. The knave of Hearts looks more interested in the Queen than the tarts! Look for Moyr Smith's initials. Condition is very good . Appearance is excellent. If you collect children's items or literary items, these are the tiles for you! The print is a dark, chocolate brown against a cream background.

VICTORIAN TILE CINDERELLA AND HER SISTERS 188 Made by an unknown factory, this 6" tile depicts Cinderella and her unattractive, dare I say ugly, step-sisters. Actually, the step-sisters just have bad tempers which render them unpleasant to look at. It would be fun to collect all of the tiles from this series. Condition is good with only a chip to one corner. Appearance is excellent. Take a look at all of the photos for the details.

03-3924

WEDGWOOD MONTH TILE JANUARY C 1880 A 6" Wedgwood tile printed in shades of cafe au lait brown. This tile was difficult to photograph as it is stippled or indented to give texture to the girls' hair and clothes as well as the plant trunk and several other areas. I have not seen a Wedgwood tile quite like this one! The month is January which can barely be seen on the bottom as there is wear to the edges of the tile. Other than that, condition is quite good. The tile was made in Staffordshire around 1880.
