03-4006

BLUE TRANSFERWARE SHEET PATTERN PLATTER 1820 A 20-1/2" by 16" pearlware platter is a sheet pattern comprising sylized flowers, leaves and curlicues against a dotted background. What a wonderful design! There is a small repair to the pattern at about 6 o'clock. Appearance is excellent. I have the same pattern in a soup bowl in this catalog which is clobbered. I didn't realize this was the same pattern for quite awhile as it looks so different with the added colors. The platter was probably made in Staffordshire around 1820. Take a look at all of the photos for the details.

Click for more detail...
02-3829

BEEMASTER PEARLWARE PLATTER BLUE TRANSFER The Beemaster pattern is one of my favorites. Even though the source print is entitled "A Swarm of Bees", an English friend suggested that the print represents a country wedding. The country folk are wearing their best clothes and the young man and woman are arm in arm. Also, the beehive was a traditional wedding gift as it offers in Jonathan Swift's words both "sweetness and light". This huge platter is 21-1/2" by 16". The blue and white transfer print is crisp and has lots of shading. Condition is overall what you would expect from a platter from about 1820. There is a minor restoration to a chip on the rim--I cannot see where it is as I bought the platter this way. There are several areas where a glaze bubble has popped leaving a small pit in the surface. This was done in the making. Appearance of the platter is excellent. This platter is truly an engraving on pottery and a must for the serious collector of blue and white transferware. It was probably made in Staffordshire around 1820. A plate in this pattern is pictured on the cover of the first Coysh and Henrywood Dictionary. Take a look at all of the photos to see the lovely details.

02-3643

CLEWS DR. SYNTAX PEARLWARE PLATTER 1825 The wonderful Dr. Syntax series was made by James and Ralph Clews in Staffordshire in the 1820's. This is a very large dinner service with lots of different center designs depicting the adventures of Dr. Syntax who was a charming cartoon-like character. This large 19" by 14" platter is entitled "Dr. Syntax Amused with Pat in the Pond". The pattern has everything you'd want to see in an early 19th century English country scene. Take a look at all of the photos but please excuse the flash. Other than a small nick on the rim of the platter that may be seen in one of the photos, condition is excellent. This is one of the harder scenes to find in this series.
