BLUE AND WHITE TRANSFERWARE/MUGS & JUGS

Picture

Jugs and pitchers are the same thing. I just like the way jug sounds with mug! Also, there are less letters when I'm typing! Jugs come in all shapes and sizes from creamers to harvest jugs like the one in the photo at the top of this page. Mugs also vary quite a bit in size and shape. Enjoy looking.

BLUE TRANSFERWARE JUG HISTORICAL SCENE? I'd love to know the name of the scene on this 7" high by 8" handle to spout dark blue jug. It look like a pattern made by Adams around 1825, but, hopefully, someone will identify it. Although there is a hairline crack that runs from the middle of one side into the bottom, it is very difficult to see as it is lost in the dark blue pattern. There are no other cracks or chips. Appearance is excellent. The cost of the jug reflects the damage. Take a look at all of the photos for the details. The jug was probably made in Staffordshire around 1825.

BLUE TRANSFERWARE WEAVE PATTERN JUG 1840 This blue transferware jug is in an unusual pattern that vaguely resembles weaving but also resembles Japanese lanterns! The overall effect is something like a pattern from the 1950s. However, the jug was made in Staffordshire around 1840! The printing is beautifully done in shades of blue that range from light to dark. Condition is excellent. The jug is 7" to the top of the spout and 6" from the spout to the handle. Take a look at all of the photos for the details.

PEARLWARE BLUE TRANSFERWARE MUG 1820 Large mugs in early transferware are not common. This 5-1'4" high by 4-1/2" wide by 6" to the handle pearlware mug is printed in medium to very dark blue in a Chinoiserie pattern that looks familiar but I hope someone can identify it for me. In a reserve opposite the handle there are four men in Middle Eastern garb. The reserve is surrounded by stylized leaves and flowers that look very modern. There is a border design of "Vs" and "1s" inside the mug. There is an ochre line around the rim. The mug is being sold "as Is". There are chips on the base rim which cannot be seen when the mug is standing. There is also a large stabilized "Y' shaped crack that runs from the rim to the bottom of the mug. Luckily, most of it is hidden in the pattern. The rest of the mug is in good condition. Appearance, despite the damage, is excellent. Take a look at all of the photos to see the details.

CLEWS BLUE TRANSFERWARE JUG 1825 This lovely dark blue pearlware transfer printed jug was made by Clews in Staffordshire around 1825. The pattern has a basket of lush flowers against a stippled ground on one side and a vase with a chinese figure on the other. This side also includes shells and vines. The jug is 7" to the top of the handle, 7-1/2" from the handle to the spout and 4-1/2" in diameter. Condition is nearly mint with only a tiny bit of wear to the blue on the inside edge of the jug--less than a quater of an inch. Take a look at all five of the photos for the details.

BLUE TRANSFERWARE PITCHER SQUIRREL AND RABBIT This 4" pearlware jug has both a rabbit and a squirrel to recommend it. The squirrel is odd looking but very cute. The border is printed upside down which adds to its charm! There is a roughness and small nicks on the spout and two small chips on the base. Other than these defects, condition is excellent. The jug was probably made in Staffordshire around 1830. This is a terrific piece for animal lovers as squirrels are rare on Staffordshire.
