08-5212

PEARLWARE CUPID BAT PRINT WITH LUSTRE RIM Jug, 4 inches. The pattern has a charming cupid print on one side and a verse on the other. Cupid is ready to stab a beehive with an arrow. There must be some symbolism here! The verse is a drinking rhyme, but not much drink would fit in this jug! The dark orange print is over the glaze. The jug is being sold as found. The spout has been glued back on and there is wear (heavy) to the rim. There are also small chips to both the rim and the base. Appearance, however, is quite good. The pattern is rare and delightful. The jug was probably made around 1820-1830 in Staffordshire. Take a look at all of the photos for the details. The jug would make a wonderful Valentine's gift.

PINK LUSTRE JUG WITH BIRD C 1830 Although the most common patterns in early pink lustre involve a cottage or castle, this one is of a bird. The lustre, which is a gold wash, is so thick it is almost purple. Condition of the jug is excellent, with very little wear. There are no chips, cracks or repairs. Take a look at all of the photos for the details. If you are a collector of pink lustre, this is the item for you!

PINK LUSTRE JUG WITH HORSE 1830 This lovely 4-1/2" jug is printed in purple and decorated with pink lustre. The pattern is unusual, as it pays tribute to "The English Bred Horse, "The Farmers (sic) Friend". The other side of the jug contains a verse that makes it clear that everything depends on the "spade and the plough" (and the horse). This is a charming jug. If you like horses and farming items, this is the jug for you! Other than a tiny nick on the spout, condition is excellent. Take a look at all of the photos for the details. The jug was probably made in Staffordshire around 1830-1840.

PINK LUSTRE COFFEE POT C1830 This pink lustre coffee pot is huge! It stands nearly 11" to the top of the finial. The shape is similar to coffee pots made by William Smith & Co. around 1830. Condition is excellent save for an in-the-making line and dent on the collar of the pot. There may also have been a repair to the tip of the spout. Appearance is excellent. If you like pink lustre, this is the piece for you! Coffee pots are fairly rare in pink lustre. Take a look at all of the photos for the details.

PINK LUSTRE PEARWARE NAMED & DATED JUG 1816 Named and dated jugs are some of my favorite pieces of china. This 7" pearlware jug is hand painted in pink lustre against a creamy ground with charming cottage scenes. Under the spout, there is a heart which contains the name, place(Leek is a town in Staffordshire) and date of a child born in the early 19th century. What a lovely gift for a newborn child! Other than a repair (see photos for details) to the beautifully molded spout, condition is excellent with no other chips, cracks or restoration. This is a rare item to add to a collection of jugs, lustreware, or early English ceramics. The jug was made in Staffordshire in the early 19th century.

02-3858

SUNDERLAND PINK LUSTRE JUG C 1840 This large pink luster jug is 8" to the top of the spout and 9" from the spout to the handle. It is printed on one side with a view of the Iron Bridge in Sunderland, the "Sailor's Farewell" on the other side and another sailor's poem under the spout. The jug is printed in black and painted over the glaze in pink lustre, green, and burnt orange. There has been restoration to the collar and the spout. The restoration which is excellent was done before I owned the jug. Appearance of the jug is wonderful. Take a look at all of the photos for the details. It is difficult to take good photos of shiny lustre so there is a lot of flash interference. The jug was probably made in Staffordshire around 1840-1850

SILVER LUSTRE TEAPOT C 1820 This lovely silver lustre pearlware teapot has wonderful detail. It is finely molded with an arcaded rim and arches on the body. Dipped in silver lustre which is actually platinum which doesn't tarnish, the pattern is covered in wax. This process is known as resist as the wax and thus the pattern resist the lustre. The spout has a few small chips and the finial has been reglued. Other than very minor wear to the lustre, condition and appearance are excellent. If you collect lustre, this is the piece for you! The teapot was probably made in Staffordshire around 1820-1825. What looks like black in some of the photos is actually silver!

CHINOISERIE PINK LUSTRE JUG C 1830 This large 8" pearlware jug is unusual as it has a chinoiserie pattern printed in black and painted over in blue, green, orange and pink lustre. There is also a wonderful stylized flower painted in pink lustre under the spout. The pattern is the same on both sides. There is a large crack that meanders under the spout from one side to the other that has been stabilized. There are also cracks on the bottom that do not go through to the inside. This sounds terrible but appearance is excellent. The jug was made in Staffordshire somewhere between 1820 and 1830.
