This is a most unusual pearlware pattern printed in dark blue, medium blue and several shades of pink through red. The tray is 7" by 5" by 1-1/2" and the footed gravy is 7" by 2-1/2" by 3". The pattern name is "Japan" and I can see the influence of Japanese design. There are peonies, prunus and what looks like a little dragon head growing out of the handle of the urn but it might be a fancy leaf! There is gilding on both pieces that highlights the pattern. Other than a tiny nick on the foot of the gravy boat, condition of both pieces is excellent. Both were probably made in Staffordshire around 1830. |
