This is an enormous dinner plate--11"--from a rare dinner service, "Mammalia". Each shape and size in this series has a different animal in the center. This is one of many services made in the second quarter of the 19th century that focuse on the extreme interest that people had in exotic animals. This plate features a "Harnessed Antelope". Other than a minor chip on the footrim, condition is excellent. |
