| A 12" diameter pearlware cake/cheese stand in a wonderful pattern of dragons and honey comb shaped scales printed in blue and outlined on the edge with ochre brown. The dragons all stand with their feet in the center of the plate. The center pattern is composed of four snakes! All of the dragons have different heads. Between their tales lie different Chinese scenes. The footed stand is 2-1/4" high. There is a glazed over chip on the outside rim, a repair to the foot (to an old crack) and a glaze pop on the leg of one of the dragons. Appearance is excellent. I love these stands as they are attractive, rare and useful. I use mine for the tradition cakes, cookies and cheeses as well as tarts and quiche. The stand was probably made in Staffordshire around 1820. Forgive the excessive flash on all of the photos! |
