This green pearlware plate is from another of my favorite series. It is from the Aesops Fables Series that was made by Spode--there is an impressed mark--in about 1832. Each size and shape has a print of a different fable and this one entitled on the back is "The Fox and the Lion". The lion is quite handsome but he looks a bit annoyed. The fox looks as if he has "outfoxed" the lion! Oh well. Take a look at the border which includes fox heads coming out of flowers as well as the usual flowers. Condition is excellent.
