The worst things about this plate are the photos! This 7" pearlware plate is printed in a reddish brown with the scene of Dr. Syntax selling his horse. The country scene includes the comic Dr. Syntax, his horse, two dogs and some businessmen. The raised border has seven different animals: a squirrel, a turkey, a ram, a swan, a goat a deer and a rooster. The are beautifully molded. Other than a stabilized hairline at seven o'clock, condition is excellent. The plate was probably made in Staffordshire around 1830. I have a small collection of Dr. Syntax items in this catalog as he is such a charming character!
