Named and dated jugs are some of my favorite pieces of china. This 7" pearlware jug is hand painted in pink lustre against a creamy ground with charming cottage scenes. Under the spout, there is a heart which contains the name, place(Leek is a town in Staffordshire) and date of a child born in the early 19th century. What a lovely gift for a newborn child! Other than a repair (see photos for details) to the beautifully molded spout, condition is excellent with no other chips, cracks or restoration. This is a rare item to add to a collection of jugs, lustreware, or early English ceramics. The jug was made in Staffordshire in the early 19th century. |
