Here is one of ten tiles from Minton, Hollins & Co circa 1870. They are from the rare Nursery Rhymes series designed by Moyr Smith, and were originally part of a fireplace surround. This 6" tile depicts Jack Sprat who could eat no fat and his wife who could eat no lean. You need to supply the rest of the rhyme! There is wonderful Victorian detail which I have tried to show in many photos. Look for Moyr Smith's initials. Condition is very good, and appearance is excellent. If you collect children's items or literary items, these are the tiles for you! The print is a dark, chocolate brown against a cream background. |
