The Gleaners pattern is one of my favorite patterns. Here it is on a gorgeous stilton cheese stand. It 11-1/4" in diameter and 2" high. The scalloped edge reminds me of a pie as does the pie-shaped divisions in the center of the stand. Perhaps the divisions were intended to help guide the person doing the cutting. There is a repair to a flower in the border at 2 o'clock and to some fruit on the foot. Appearance is excellent. This is a rare, gorgeous and useful item. I use my cheese stands for quiche, pie, cake, or cookies. Take a look at all of the photos for the details. The stand was probably made in Staffordshire around 1820. |
