If you are looking for an unusual piece of English Ironstone, this is the item for you! With its lid, the pail is about 10" high, and it is about 11" from handle to handle. The pattern is printed in underglaze blue, clobbered in orange and yellow, and gilded on the handles. The printed mark includes the pattern number, 824, and the pattern name, Amherst Japan. Condition is excellent with no chips, cracks or restoration. The pail is in two pieces; the top holds the ice, and the bottom holds the fruit or ice cream. This is actually quite a useful item! Take a look at all of the photos for the details. The pail was made by Minton in Staffordshire around 1840. |
