| Made by J. Meigh & Son in Staffordshire (1812-1832), this sauce tureen is printed in black with a, I think, hyena on the base, and a tiger on the undertray and the lid. The tureen is 6" high when all three pieces are together. The undertray measures 7" by 6". The ladle, which has sheep in the bowl, like the soup ladle, measures 6-1/4". The sauce tureen is part of a dinner service that depicts different animals on each size and shape. The birds in the border appear to be different on each size also. I have 33 pieces in this service. Condition is as follows. The lid and the undertray are in excellent condition. One handle of the base has been glued back on, and there is a tiny chip on one of the feet. Appearance is excellent. Take a look at the photos for the details. |
