This lovely pearlware 16-1/2" by 13-1/2" platter is printed in medium and light blue with a pattern entitled Etruscan Shield. I'm not sure what the shield is all about, but things Etruscan were all the rage in the 1830s. The birds are in a shield-like cartouche interspersed with roses against a milles fleurs background. The border has feather-like flourishes and more flowers. This is a gorgeous pattern! The edges of the platter are gently scalloped. Take a look at all of the photos for the details. Condition of the platter is excellent. The platter was made in Staffordshire around 1835. |
