Circa: 1825 Manufacturer: Maker Unknown
Charger, 12.25 inches. This pattern, "The Beauties of England and Wales", is part of a large series that depicts British castles and great houses. The pattern here shows Brecknock Castle. As well as the castle in the center of the pattern, there are six different castles in the border. The Castle of Brecknock (also known as Brecon Castle) was built in Wales, at the confluence of the rivers Usk and Honddu, by Bernard de Neufmarche within 25 years of the Norman Conquest (1066). Condition of the charger is excellent. Although the maker is still unknown, it was probably made in Staffordshire around 1825. |
