TRANSFERWARE > CHINOISERIE

View As: List  |  Gallery

All early transferware was influenced by Chinese design. Thus, some of the earliest transferware pieces look as if they were made in China. One of the most famous Chinoiserie patterns is the "Willow" pattern which was designed by the Spode Factory in the late 18th century and is still popular today.

07-5059

APOTHECARY PATTERN CHINOISERIE PLATTER 1820 Platter, 13 inches by 10 inches. It is printed in blue, but is so beautifully painted in yellow, orange, pink, green and blue, that the outline is barely seen. The 1820s pattern is known as "Apothecary". If you look carefully, you'll see that one of the seated men is grinding something with a mortar and pestle. Although the platter has cracks on the right hand side, appearance is still excellent. If you like richly colored Chinoiserie patterns, this is the one for you!
Circa: 1820

MINTON CHINOISERIE BLUE TRANSFER SOUP BOWL Made in Staffordshire around 1820 by the Minton Factory, this 9"pearlware soup bowl is printed in medium to dark blue with a lovely pattern known as Fisherman. Although the pattern resembles a Chinoiserie pattern, it is more of a transitional pattern, with its English looking people, dogs and flowers. Take a look at the photos for the details. Condition is excellent.

06-4786

CHINOISERIE DAVENPORT BLUE TRANFER PLATTER This lovely blue transferware pearlware 16-1/2" by 13" platter was made by Davenport in Staffordshire around 1820. It is printed in soft blue with an unknown to me Chinoiserie scene. Other than a 2" tight hairline at 7 o'clock, that is mostly visible on the back, and a chip in the foliage under the flower at 12 o'clock, condition is excellent. It is difficult to see either flae. Take a look at all of the photos for the details. The back has an impressed Davenport mark.
Thanks to Dora Landey and Loren Zeller, I now know that the pattern name is "View of the Imperial Park at Gehol". This is an actual view rather than an imaginary one.
Circa: 1825
Manufacturer: Davenport
