CHILD'S PLATE WITH GIRL AND DOG WEARING CAP Plate, 5 inches. This is charming pattern printed in teal with a border painted with red flowers and green leaves. The little girl is pretending to teach her dog to read. She has placed a dunce cap on his head (apparently because he hasn't learned how!). Condition is excellent, with no chips, cracks or restoration. The plate was probably made in Staffordshire around 1830-1840.

Click for more detail...

08-5234

ARCTIC SCENERY GREEN TRANSFERWARE PLATE Plate, 10.5 inches. The pattern is part of a series that depicts scenes of Arctic exploration combined with a border of warm-weather animals! The central scenes represent episodes in the travels of Sir Edward William Parry around the northern part of Canada. The animals in the borders come from a few sources: the Pied Goat/Harnessed Antelope, the Jaguar, and the Axis/Ganges Stag are from Thomas Bewick's "General History of Quadrupeds". The Jaguar may also be from William Jardine's "Natural History". The lion is from William Goldsmith's "Animated Nature". The green of the plate is a grey-green. The photo closest in color is the photo of the center. Although appearance is excellent, there is a possible repair to two rim chips at eleven and nearly twelve o'clock. The plate was probably made in Staffordshire around 1840.
Circa: 1840

The pattern was popular, and thus was made in many colors; red, pink, light blue, purple, black, two color and many shades of green. The above platter is printed in a rich grassy green. It was made around 1840 by William Ridgway (1830-1854) in Shelton, Staffordshire. There is no damage; no cracks, chips or restoration.

SPODE BOTANICAL GREEN TRANSFERWARE DISH 1835 The dark green beautifully printed 10-1/2" by 8" dish was made by Copeland & Garrett, Late Spode in Staffordshire around 1835. The parttern is not common. I have only seen two pieces in this series and they are both in this catalog. This pearlware dish is entitled "Nasturtian" which is printed on the back. The many lobed form is very pleasing. There are two tiny nicks under the rim which are not visible from the front. Appearance is excellent. I'd love to see more pieces in this series. If you like botanicals, this is the one for you!
