"What are those expensive little things?" People ask me this question all of the time. They are knife rests that protect your table and tablecloth. Today we put the knife on the plate. You see knife rests in porcelain, pottery, silver and glass. These are tranfer printed and about 160 years old. They are a great addition to a collection or your table!

BLUE TRANSFERWARE KNIFE RESTS FLORAL 1825 This pair of nearly 4" long by 1-1/4" wide pearlware knife rests was probably made in Staffordshire around 1825. They are printed with a lovely rose and fruit pattern which is most likely a border pattern. Condition is as follows. One has a repair to a small nick at one corner. The other has a filled-in grayish repair to one end. Appearance is still good. Take a look at all of the photos for the details. Knife Rests are fairly uncommon, and it is nice to have a pair.
Circa: 1825
Manufacturer: Maker Unknown

PEARLWARE MEIR KNIFE REST HEART ENDS 1830 A delightful and rare dark blue pearlware 3-3/4" knife rest with heart shaped ends made by John Meir (1812-1836) in Staffordshire around 1830. The pattern is one of overall small circles on a molded form that has a heart on each end. The bottom of the knife rest has the impressed mark--Meir. There are two small nicks on the edge of the rest and a chip on the bottom which is not visible unless you turn it over. Appearance is excellent. I have two of these rests. If you collect knife rests, unusual pearlware or blue and white items, this is the one for you!
Circa: 1830
Manufacturer: Meir
