I have been buying pairs and sets of transferware because people like to decorate with pairs and use sets. Some of my customers have a dozen early 19th century dinner plates to use on special occasions. Others like to have sets of soup bowls to serve maztoh ball soup or summer gazpacho!

07-4997

PROGRESS OF THE LOAF SET OF FOUR PLATES 1835 Usually found on children’s wares, this pattern is printed in blue on four 9-1/4" plates. The border of the plates is the familiar "Canova" border of the pattern made by Thomas Mayer (c. 1826-1838). The mark on the back is, indeed, "Canova". The mystery is the designation of the two letters on the back of each plate. They appear to be a J and a T. "The Progress of the Quartern Loaf" is from a poem written by Mary Belson Elliot in 1820. The poems and scenes on the plates include The Thrasher, The Reaper, The Miller and The Baker. Eliot's poems include The Ploughman and The Sower. Condition of all four plates is excellent. I only have space for eight photos, so please ask for more photos if you would like more details.

STUBBS FRUIT AND FLOWERS PLATE 1825 Although I have a pair of these plates, I am selling them individually. These nearly 10" plates are beautifully printed in medium to dark blue with the popular pattern known as Fruit and Flowers. Both plates are impressed with the Stubbs' mark on the back. Condition is excellent, with no cracks, chips or repairs. If you like floral patterns, this is the pattern for you! Take a look at the photos for the details. If you buy the pair, I can do better on the price.
Circa: 1825
Manufacturer: Joseph Stubbs

Your Price: $375.00
